The Bagua Map: Understanding the Eight Life Areas

The Bagua (Pa Kua) is an octagonal energy map used in Feng Shui to analyze the energy of any space. Each of the eight sections corresponds to a different life area and is associated with specific colors, elements, and attributes.

The Eight Life Areas

1. Career & Life Path (Kan) - North

  • Element: Water
  • Colors: Black, dark blue
  • This area influences your professional journey and life purpose. Enhance it with water features, mirrors, or dark colors.

2. Knowledge & Self-Cultivation (Gen) - Northeast

  • Element: Earth
  • Colors: Blue, green, black
  • Governs wisdom, learning, and personal growth. Add books, meditation spaces, or earth tones.

3. Family & Health (Zhen) - East

  • Element: Wood
  • Colors: Green, blue
  • Affects family relationships and physical well-being. Use plants, family photos, and wooden items.

4. Wealth & Prosperity (Xun) - Southeast

  • Element: Wood
  • Colors: Purple, green
  • Influences financial abundance and material blessings. Add healthy plants, purple accents, or symbols of abundance.

5. Fame & Reputation (Li) - South

  • Element: Fire
  • Colors: Red
  • Governs how others perceive you and your public image. Use candles, lighting, awards, or red decor.

6. Love & Relationships (Kun) - Southwest

  • Element: Earth
  • Colors: Pink, red, white
  • Affects romantic partnerships and close relationships. Display pairs of items, romantic artwork, or pink/red colors.

7. Children & Creativity (Dui) - West

  • Element: Metal
  • Colors: White, pastels
  • Influences creativity, projects, and relationships with children. Add metal objects, white decor, or creative supplies.

8. Helpful People & Travel (Qian) - Northwest

  • Element: Metal
  • Colors: Gray, white, black
  • Governs mentors, benefactors, and travel opportunities. Use metal items, travel images, or photos of mentors.

Center (Tai Chi)

  • Element: Earth
  • Colors: Yellow, earth tones
  • Represents overall health and balance, connecting all other areas. Keep this area clear and grounded.

How to Apply the Bagua

To apply the Bagua to your space:

  1. Stand at your front door, facing into your home
  2. Align the Career section with your entrance
  3. Overlay the Bagua map onto your floor plan
  4. Identify which areas of your home correspond to which life aspects
  5. Enhance weak areas with appropriate colors, elements, and symbols

Remember that the Bagua can be applied to your entire home, individual rooms, or even your desk.
