What is a Gua Number?
The Gua number, also known as the Kua number, is calculated based on your birth year and gender. It ranges from 1 to 9 (excluding 5 for men, which becomes 2, and 5 for women, which becomes 8).
The Two Groups
Based on your Gua number, you belong to either the East Group or the West Group:
East Group (Gua 1, 3, 4, 9)
- Best directions: East, Southeast, North, South
- Element associations: Water, Wood, Fire
West Group (Gua 2, 6, 7, 8)

- Jue Ming (Total Loss): Worst direction, avoid at all costs

- Sleep with your head pointing toward one of your auspicious directions
- Work facing one of your favorable directions
- Enter your home through a door in an auspicious direction when possible
- Avoid sitting with your back to your inauspicious directions
