Understanding Changing Lines
Changing lines are the key to unlocking the deeper wisdom of the I Ching. They represent points of transformation and dynamic energy.
What Are Changing Lines?
In traditional I Ching casting:
- Old Yang (9): A solid line that changes to broken
- Old Yin (6): A broken line that changes to solid
- Young Yang (7): A stable solid line
- Young Yin (8): A stable broken line
Why They Matter
Changing lines indicate:
- Areas of active transformation
- Points requiring special attention
- The direction of change
- Specific advice for your situation
The Two Hexagrams
When you have changing lines, you receive two hexagrams:
1. Primary Hexagram: Your current situation
2. Relating Hexagram: The outcome or future direction
